“This is a significant and long-awaited event, because the transition of Latvian public television to modern quality of transmission is fundamentally important – viewers' demands for content quality are only increasing and the public media needs to change with time,” said LTV board member Ivars Priede.
LTV said that viewers will have access to assess high-quality visual content already this week, watching the Eurovision Song Contest on LTV1 and the World Ice Hockey Championship on LTV7. New programs launched in autumn will also be in HD. Older archival materials will still be viewed in SD resolution.
For technical reasons independent of LTV, free terrestrial TV viewers of LTV1 and LTV7 will have access to HD in 2022.
