LIVE: 'Dod pieci' charity marathon

Take note – story published 3 years ago

The annual 'Dod pieci' (Gimme five) charity marathon run by youth radio station pieci.lv [part of the same public media framework as LSM] began December 17, in Rīga.

This year, the marathon aims to raise awareness of domestic violence and contribute towards its reduction, as reported earlier by LSM.

This will be the seventh time pieci.lv's DJs have set up a glass box in Central Rīga Doma Square to collect donations by public requesting to play a song of their choice on air. The marathon began Thursday at 12:00 and will run until December 23. The first guest into the glass box was President Egils Levits.

The funds donated during the marathon will be directed to the Ziedot.lv rapid response crisis fund, providing financial support mainly to women and children who want to break free from violent relationships but are unable to do so due to lack of support.

Anyone can donate in exchange for their choice of record being played on air on the website https://dod.pieci.lv//. Minimum pledge is EUR 5.

Until December 27, donations can be given at Circle K gas stations throughout Latvia. Cash donations can be given by the DJ glass box studio in Doma Square. Two-meter distance must be observed.

Until December 23 there will also be a charity auction on the dodpieci.lv website.

You can follow the marathon online 24/7 on Latvian Radio 5 (pieci.lv), and on video livestream at dodpieci.lv or via the link above.

Previous Dod pieci campaigns have targeted issues such as palliative care for cancer patients, children living in care, and help for parents of children with disabilities as their central themes, and have raised hundreds of thousands of euros for featured charities.
