This means that Magonis will be released from Riga Central Prison today.
Magonis' attorney Janis Rozenbergs told LETA that the bond was paid by Magonis' wife, who borrowed the money from several persons. The attorney declined to reveal names of these persons.
As reported, the court decided last Thursday to give permission to release Magonis on €400,000 bail.
This could be by far the largest bail amount set in Latvian history. In 2010, the bail for the former head of joint-stock power utility company "Latvenergo" was set at €71,143. The same bail amount was also set for the former mayor of Jurmala Raimonds Munkevics in 2010.
Latvia's anti-corruption force, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) sensationally detained Ugis Magonis, chairman and president of state-owned Latvian Railways (Latvijas Dzelzcels) on August 7.
On August 10, representatives of the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) announced that criminal proceedings have started against Magonis for accepting a bribe of a large amount.
Magonis is suspected of accepting a bribe worth €500,000 in connection with a tender for four diesel locomotives organized by the railway company's subsidiary, LDZ Ritosa Sastava Serviss, which was won by Estonian businessman Oleg Ossinovski's company Skinest.
