Massive roadworks start in Rīga

Take note – story published 8 years and 4 months ago

On Friday roadworks began on Rīga's busiest streets - Lāčplēša and Brīvības st. Accordingly, drivers and public transport passengers should expect to spend more time in traffic this summer in the capital.

Currently roadworks are starting on Lāčplēša st. from the Salu bridge to Avotu st. During repairs the street will be drivable only in one way, and pedestrians should note that the sidewalks are to be reconstructed as well. The street is to be reconstructed in full throughout the year.

While construction on Brīvības st. will stretch from the Freedom Monument to the Lāčplēša st. intersection and continue from the VEF bridge until Juglas st.

Rīga City Council representative Edmunds Valpēters said that the bulk of the roadworks should be finished by September 1, upon which two-lane traffic should resume.
