Number of school-age children leaving Latvia close to 13,000 last year

The number of 7 to 18 years old children who have left Latvia grew to 12,801 in 2017, according to the annual report released by the State Education Quality Service July 26.

The government service’s statistics on kids that are not registered with any education institutions show that 16,080 kids aged 7 to 18 did not go to school in the academic year 2017/2018. Local authorities had no information about 448 of these children.

The number of school-age children not registered with any education institution has been declining in recent years. In the academic year 2016/2017 the number of such kids was 17,357.

The number of school-age children leaving Latvia decreased by 1,002 to 12,801 kids in 2017.
