It constitutes a 7.9 percent rise from the same period last year, the Riga Tourism Development Bureau (RTAB) said, citing the information from the Latvian national statistics office.
The number of nights spent by tourists in hotels in Riga during the second quarter of 2015 increased 5% year-by-year.
Most of the tourists staying in hotels and other tourist accommodation facilities came from Germany (14%), Russia (9.8%), Finland (6.6%), Norway (6.1%), Lithuania (5.8%), Sweden (5.4%) and the United Kingdom (4.8%).
"Thanks to active work of the sector, the second quarter was closed with an 8 percent growth. The number of Russian tourists in the second quarter compared to the respective period last year has dropped by 35 percent. Positive results were ensured by guests from Western Europe," said Vita Jermolovica, a board member of RTAB.
The steepest rise in the number of foreign tourists in Riga in the second quarter of 2015 was observed for tourists from Denmark (37.3%), Spain (36.2%), the Netherlands (33.9%), Ukraine (30%), the UK (21.2%), Norway (14.3%), and France (13.4%).
In the second quarter of 2014 there were 124 tourist accommodation facilities with a total of 14,523 beds operating in Riga.
In the same period last year, hotels in Riga served 309,500 foreign tourists.
