One dead in apartment fire in Ulbroka, Latvia

On Wednesday, February 15, evening, one person died in the fire at a social apartment housing in Ropaži municipality Ulbroka, while three victims were taken to the hospital. 20 people were rescued from the burning building, LSM reported.

The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) said that the call was received at 18:27 about a fire in a four-story residential house in Ulbroka. On arrival at the scene, firefighters found that the building was engulfed in a lot of smoke and several people could not get out of it.

At least 40 firefighters with eight road tankers and three climbers were working at the scene. Seven Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) medical crews, including a specialist team of physicians, were also at the scene.

Two apartments and a corridor in an area of 92 square meters were burning on the second floor of the social apartment house.

A total of 20 people were rescued, but one was found dead in one of the burning apartments.

NMPD delivered three victims to the hospital, including one in severe condition, while two received help at the site of the event.

The spread of the flames was contained Wednesday evening around 20:30. Work continued afterward until past midnight.
