Payout of childcare allowance begins in Latvia

On Thursday, March 18, the State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA) carried out the first money transfer of childcare allowance of €500 aid per child, said Welfare Ministry.

 The Treasury has today transferred a total of EUR 62,320,000 to Latvian families.

The second transfer is scheduled for Friday-March 19, while the third is scheduled for March 22 or March 23.

The beneficiaries will receive the money in their accounts no later than three working days after the date of the transfer. The €500 aid will be paid to a total of 363,320 children.

The VSAA will make a separate payment for each child. Transfer dates for each child may vary because the payout will take place gradually in accordance the child's year of birth, starting with the oldest children.

As previously reported,  EUR 500 will be paid for each child under 15 years of age, those children aged 15 to 20 who are studying and dependent, and children who will be born until April 6, 2021. April 6 is the day the state of emergency in Latvia is currently set to expire.

This one-off financial support will be covered by the contingency budget program. The payment will be made automatically by State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA) without any applications. The payment will not be subject to tax or deductions.
