Rīga's Vidzeme District Court decided to release Aleksandrs Gapoņenko, a pro-Kremlin activist and the leader of an unregistered organization, the Congress of Non-citizens, from custody.
Among other charges, Gapoņenko is accused of incitement of hatred and anti-state activities.
As the court deliberated whether to keep him behind bars, dozens of supporters cheered Gapoņenko on with flowers and posters in the court building, reported Latvian Radio.
