The Latgale District Court’s prosecutor's department has sent to court the case of alleged vote-buying in the eastern province on 12th Saeima election day, which it has determined amounts to the deliberate hindering of a person’s right to freely elect deputies to parliament.

A single person is being prosecuted for alleged vote buying in the 12th Saeima election in these criminal proceedings.

According to the decision for handing the criminal procedure to court, the prosecuted person induced three voters to participate in the elections in exchange for money, voting for "Vienotība" candidate Dzintars Zaķis.

The case has been sent to Rēzekne court.

Criminal proceedings for the same reason were previously started against two persons. The candidate whose name surfaced repeatedly in connection with these allegations was Dzintars Zaķis, undergoing investigations by the Security Police.

Altogether seven proceedings have been started about alleged vote buying in the 12th Saeima elections
