Rīga construction watchdog: 60% of new projects rejected

Take note – story published 8 years ago

More than 60% of the construction projects handed to the authority this year have been deemed unfit and thus rejected, Riga City Construction Board Director Inguss Vircavs told Latvian Television Thursday.

He said that some projects have been rejected several times.

Vircavs declined to name some of these companies, but he said that the projects are problematic both for famous companies and smaller ones.

The problems create an impression that the construction industry prioritizes being compliant with the law.

"I think that after the [Zolitūde 2013] disaster the lesson should have been learned better," said Vircavs.

He said that the construction board has informed both the industry and the Ministry of Economics.
