It is planned to adapt the social residential house on Ūnijas Street 49 to the accommodation of Ukrainian refugees in Rīga. The Rīga City Council's Housing and Environment Committee is scheduled to decide on this on Tuesday, November 1.

The Committee intends to instruct the Department of Housing and Environment to ensure that the rooms in the residential house are suitable for living, lighted, heated, and suitable for long-term shelter. Funds for the repair of premises are to be requested from the reserve fund of the Riga City Council and to request compensation from the State budget resources.

The residential house has 25 two-room apartments with two separate rooms and shared facilities in each, with 50 rooms available in total. The average area of one living room is 12 square meters. One square meter of repair costs around €165, but total repair costs are €99,000.

The building on Ūnijas Street could accommodate 125 persons at the same time.

Initially, partial equipment for the provision of short-term primary needs with beds, mattresses, and pillows will be obtained using the resources available to the State Fire and Rescue Service.

State budget funding will be used to cover the costs of purchasing long-term equipment.
