Russian military planes intercepted by Baltic Air Police

Two Russian air force Antonov military transport aircraft were intercepted off of Latvian airspace over the Baltic sea by Italian Typhoon jets Wednesday, according to the National Armed Forces (NBS) Twitter feed.

The two planes in question were the massive AN-22 transport freighter and its lighter, but similarly purposed counterpart AN-72, known in NATO code as a "Coaler".

The scramble comes the same day as reports of massive paratrooper drills being conducted by Russia across the inland borders of Estonia and Latvia in the Pskov region involving around 2,000 troops plus attack helicopters.
