Taxify won't be leaving Latvia

The Taxify rideshare app won't be leaving Latvia after a controversial rule was removed from the proposed rideshare regulations, Taxify Latvia head Juris Krūmiņš told Latvian Radio February 8.

As politicians have removed a requirement of storing app data on Latvian servers, Taxify is not thinking about leaving the Latvian market, said Krūmiņš.

However, Taxify still criticizes the norm that requires drivers to pay an advance of €130 into social security contributions, saying it would make it very difficult to people earn money part time using the app.

The company's business practices have, however, also been criticized, as numerous people celebrating New Year's Eve were unpleasantly surprised by surge pricing as they sought to return home in the early hours of 2018.

As reported, Taxify had threatened it would leave Latvia should controversial rideshare regulations be adopted.
