US changes guard at Ādaži

The US Army rotated its troops in Latvia as part of NATO's ongoing Operation Atlantic Resolve, reported defense news portal Sargs.lv Thursday.

Replacement troops numbering 140 from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment "Cottonbalers", 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division "Raider" and the 1st Squadron of the 91st Infantry Regiment of the 173rd Infantry Brigade arrived at the Camp Adazi outside Riga to train with soldiers of the Latvian National Armed Forces for the next three months.

The US soldiers with the 3rd Infantry Division who have arrived from Georgia, US, and soldiers with the 173rd Infantry Brigade who had been stationed in Vicenza, Italy, are replacing US troops with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment who had spent three months at the Camp Adazi, taking part in joint drills, including multi-national training exercise Operation Summer Shield XII.

The US soldiers will be taking part in drills and exercises, including Saber Strike 2015, a multi-national training exercise, scheduled to take place in the Baltic states in June.

Following the annexation of Crimea by Russia and Russia’s aggression in eastern Ukraine, the US launched Operation Atlantic Resolve to demonstrate its continued commitment to the collective security of NATO and dedication to the enduring peace and stability in the Baltic states and Poland.
