Watch: Wild marten bosses around in empty stork nest

Take note – story published 6 years ago

It could have been tragic. A wild marten was seen bossing around the nest of Latvia's two most famous black storks--but it was empty, and instead the animal could only poke around confusedly finding nothing of value on top of the tree.

The marten was seen nimbly scaling a fir tree and then making a menacing landing on the nest, monitored by the Latvian Fund for Nature and broadcast live with thousands enjoying the private lives of the flying birds.

LTV's Nature Facts reported earlier that Latvia's popular online bird cams were visited by 3 million people in 2016.

The nest of the Black stork is located in the middle part of Latvia in Sigulda County. It was discovered two years ago. In 2005 the previous nest was destroyed by a marten, and, most likely, birds moved to the current nest afterwards.
