The Wizz Air Liverpool–Rīga flight no. W62512 was delayed for 28 hours, with British Echo reporting that the delay saw 170 passengers left stranded due to "unscheduled maintenance".
Several other Wizz Air flights are delayed from 2 to 15 hours.
The flight Rīga–Eindhoven (W62525) has been delayed from 7.10 a.m. to 5.20 p.m., while the flights Rīga–Oslo (W62579) and Rīga–Doncaster-Sheffield (W62509) have been delayed for two hours.
Incoming flights are seeing delays too, as the Rīga–Barcelona (W62564) is delayed for 15 hours, and incoming flights from Eindhoven and Oslo also postponed, according to the Rīga Airport website.
An airport representative told Rus.lsm.lv that there have been no announcements from the low-cost airline, but the delays are likely to have been caused by a chain reaction following the cancellation of a single flight.
The airline invites stranded people to submit a compensation claim.
