Latvia had a relatively warm April

April this year, as well as April 1990 and 1950, was the fifth warmest in the history of observations, according to information compiled by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

April's average air temperature in Latvia was +7.4 degrees Celsius, +1.3 C above the month's norm.

The monthly minimum air temperature was -4.5 C, observed on April 5 at Mērsrags. The maximum air temperature plus +23.7 degrees was observed on April 24 in Bauska.

At the beginning and end of April, the air temperature in Latvia was below the norm, but in the middle, the air temperature was above normal, even more than 5 degrees above normal on certain days.

Overall, 14 peak air temperature records were outperformed in April.

The total rainfall in Latvia in April was 20.3 millimeters, 43% below the monthly norm.

A blanket of snow was only seen at the beginning of the month. The thickest snow blanket in Latvia in April was three centimeters, registered in Saldus on April 5.
