First Autumn storm expected to arrive Tuesday

The first storm of Autumn is expected to arrive in Latvia Tuesday night into Wednesday, with an orange warning in place for high winds, said the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC).

On Tuesday, a cyclone will reaching Latvia from the west on Tuesday evening. As the atmospheric pressure decreases, winds will start to increase in strength. First to experience the blast will be coastal areas, where gusts of 20-24 meters per second will be likely. During the night and Wednesday morning winds will continue to gain strength, reaching up to 25-30 m/s in gusts in Kurzeme and Vidzeme. 

A yellow level warning (potenial danger) will be in effect throughout the whole country. The wind will gradually begin to lose its strength on Wednesday evening. 

People should beware of falling branches and trees, and power outages are possible if lines are damaged.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, rain is also expected in many places, and the precipitation may be heavy. Together with the stormy wind, visibility will deteriorate, so road users should be especially careful.
