Cold weather to persist in Latvia this week

Frost and cold weather will persist in Latvia this week, which means snow is also here to stay, according to forecasts.

On Monday, some snowfall is expected across the country, less on Tuesday, but on Wednesday there will be no more snowfall. 

On Thursday and Friday snow will fall again, with the snow layer increasing by a few centimeters in some places. 

Slow winds of changing direction will blow through the first half of the week, while southeast winds will turn in the second half of the week, which will become increasingly gusty over the holidays.

The air temperature during the working week at night will mostly be within -9 C to -4 C, some nights in Vidzeme and Latgale, as the sky clears, around -15 C, while during the days it will be mostly -7 C to -2 C, in the east of the country around -10 C, and in some places on the coast zero.

During the holidays, the Atlantic cyclone will come closer to Latvia, more prolonged precipitation will likely start on Sunday – frost, which will gradually move from the west into wet snow and rain. The air temperature will start to rise.
