Week will get gradually colder in Latvia

Although the sun will sometimes shine in the beginning of the second week of February, there will be plenty of clouds in the sky, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVGMC).

Clouds will bring precipitation in many places on Monday, mostly snow and wet snow, as well as heavy rainfall in places, but snow is only expected in some areas on Tuesday.

Western, northwesterly winds, which will intensify between 15 and 18 meters per second in gusts near the coast, will gradually subside on Tuesday and slow across the country. Monday and Tuesday will see minimum air temperatures of 0 to -5 C during night hours, only a little warmer on the Kurzeme coast. During the day, the temperatures will range from -3 C to +3 C.

By midweek, as colder air masses arrive, subzero temperatures across the country are expected – between -3 C and -9 C during the day and colder at nights, even -15 C to -19 C on Friday night. There will be less precipitation overall, snow only in certain areas and not very intense, wind intensification is expected nearer the end of the working week.

During the weekend, the cold will persist and snowing is possible in a wider area.
