February was much warmer than usual in Latvia

Last month was 3.7 degrees warmer than usual in Latvia, according to information compiled by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

February's average air temperature in the country was 0.6 degrees Celsius and it was the warmest winter month since 2020, when February and January's average temperature was 2.2 and 3.1 degrees, respectively.

Last month's minimum air temperature was -17.6 degrees on February 10 in Alūksne, while the highest temperature was 11.4 degrees on the 16th in Pāvilosta. 

Snow was often observed in the first half of the month but by the end of the month snow had melted across the country.

The strongest wind gusts - 24.4 meters per second - were seen on February 1 in Ventspils.
