Slim chances of July heatwave in Latvia

The probability of a heatwave in Latvia is small this month, according to the latest forecasts.

In the next two weeks, weather conditions in the region will mostly be determined by cyclones, so weather will be changeable with both rainy and sunny days but temperatures will mostly be around the climate norm or slightly below. One or two days of hot weather are possible, but longer periods of heat are unlikely.

In August, the average air temperature in Latvia is likely to be above the climate rate and the possibility of heatwaves will increase, predicts the European Environment Monitoring Programme Copernicus.

The weather will be mostly sunny in the coming weekend, but in Vidzeme and Latgale, local rainclouds and thunderstorms are possible.

The air temperature from Saturday to Monday will be within +18 C to +24 C but the nights will be chilly with minimum temperatures +8 C to +13 C.

On Sunday evening, there will be no rainfall during the grand final concert of the Song and Dance Festival but the evening will be cool with temperatures dropping to +14 C.

Nearly every day next week, in some parts of Latvia, rains are expected, only Tuesday could pass without rainfall. The rainfall areas will be mostly local.
