Latvia will get warmer weather starting Sunday

Cold weather will persist across Latvia on Saturday but will get warmer from Sunday, with temperatures mostly slightly above zero next week, according to forecasts.

Early on Saturday morning, the air temperature in Latvia will be -8 C to -3 C, while in many places in Vidzeme and Latgale it will be -15 C. During the day, temperatures will range from -8  C near Alūksne to 0 in Kurzeme's southwest.

By Sunday it will become a few degrees warmer, but only places in Kurzeme will thaw.

The weekend will pass without significant precipitation, only on Sunday evening a rainfall zone will come closer to Latvia from the south, bringing fine snow at first, which will quickly move into freezing rain or sleet.

During the night to Monday, ice will develop throughout Latvia, which in many places, especially in Vidzeme, will remain on Monday morning, so motorists should be especially cautious, as roads will be slippery.

It will get warmer next week. Air temperature during the days will be mostly within +1 C to +7 C.

Kurzeme is likely to enter meteorological spring next week as average overnight temperatures in parts of the region will stay above zero for at least five nights.
