A warm day in Liepāja

On Friday afternoon, the air temperature in Latvia's south-western city of Liepāja rose to a balmy 9.6 degrees Celsius, surpassing a record that had stood for nearly a century, according to data from the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LVĢMC).

The temperature easily exceeded the previous highest air temperature recorded in Liepāja on February 16 which was 9.3 C in 1925.

There was considerable variance in air temperaturea across the country with Alūksne in the north-east still a chilly -0.7 C on Friday afternoon.

The heat record of the entire country on February 16 is 13.4 degrees, recorded at Kolka in 2019.
