Week begins with cooler weather in Latvia

The new working week will start with colder weather and snow is expected in some places, forecasts say.

The first half of the week is expected to be cloudy, with some sunshine. Snow and sleet are expected at times overnight and during the day, mainly in the east, with a chance of fog in eastern parts of the country.

On Monday there will be a slow to moderate northerly, north-easterly wind, with moderate gusts of 15 to 18 meters per second at night along the coast. A colder air mass continues to move into the area, with temperatures dropping to 0 to -3 degrees at night and warming to 0 to +5 C during the day.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, winds will ease as atmospheric pressure rises, and precipitation will decrease. Fog will develop overnight and in the morning in parts of the east. On Tuesday, temperatures will be around 0 degrees at night and +4 to +7 C during the day, with a low of +1 to +4 C along the Kurzeme coast.

On Wednesday night, the minimum air temperature is expected to be around -2 to +3 C, while during the day the thermometer will rise to just above +5 C in many places, but the coast will remain colder, with +2 to +5 C.

In the second half of the week, a warmer air mass will move into Latvia and cyclones will start to set the weather, making it warmer but windier and more precipitation-rich. At night, the frost will recede over most of the country and the days will be warmer, with the temps reaching +10 C again at the weekend.
