On Thursday, a zone of rain will reach Latvia from the west. By mid-day, rain will start in many parts of Kurzeme, with showers in Zemgale and western Vidzeme in the afternoon and evening. Air temperature on Thursday night will be 0 to +4 degrees, and during the day +4 to +9 C.
On Friday and Saturday, it will also rain occasionally, with similar temperatures of +4 C to +9 C, and on Saturday, with clearing skies, +10 C to +12 C in central and eastern parts of the country. Temperatures will also stay below freezing at night. Gusty south-westerly winds are expected.
On Sunday, a small but active cyclone will pass through Latvia, so expect prolonged, sometimes heavy rain, turning to snow in places, mainly in Vidzeme. A light layer of snow may also form. Air temperatures will drop to 1+ C to +5 C degrees during the day.
Temperatures will rise slowly over the next week. Current forecasts suggest a more rapid rise over the Easter weekend, with temperatures likely to exceed 15 degrees.
