Drizzly, increasingly chilly weather week ahead

Although at the beginning of this week the thermometer will still rise above the +10 Celsis mark during the bright hours of the day, in the middle of the week it will get colder again, according to the latest forecasts from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC).

The weather pattern in Latvia this week will be determined by the activity of cyclones, so rain is expected, which may also be replaced by sleet and snow in some areas.

In the first days of the week, the sky will be mostly covered by clouds, but in some places a ray of sunshine will break out. Rain is also expected in some parts of the country, but it will not be strong or long-lasting. In Vidzeme region, sleet is also possible. A slow wind will blow, contributing to the formation of fog during the night and morning hours. The air temperature at night will not be lower than +1 C, but during the day the air will warm up to from +3 C to +9 C and on Monday the thermometer will even rise above the +10 C mark on the coast.

The middle of the week  will be cloudy and autumnal. Precipitation is still expected, it will be more intense on Thursday and in some areas the rain will be replaced by sleet and snow. Due to changes in atmospheric pressure, it will become gusty along the coast of the Gulf of Rīga. The air temperature will mostly be in the range of +1 C to +6 C, although in some places in the east of the country the thermometer will drop below zero during the night hours.

The end of the week  will be similar, and slightly cooler again. Some snowflakes are also expected, although the formation of a permanent snow cover is not yet predicted. Day and night temperatures will remain similar, only in the dark hours of the day the air will cool down to -1 C in some places.
