There will be some frost still overnight into Thursday all over the country, except for places on the coast. During the day a wide rainfall zone will cross Latvia from the west, bringing snow at first, but after a few hours it will turn into rain, while in Vidzeme and Latgale there will also be freezing rain. Driving conditions in the east of the country will be particularly challenging on Thursday night as ice forms rapidly.
Friday will be rainy and windy, with air temperatures reaching +2 to +7 C, the snow will melt rapidly and, in many places, completely.
By New Year's Eve, the temperature will drop slightly, so rain will be replaced by snow again in many places, especially in Vidzeme and Latgale.
Total rainfall will reach 20-30 millimeters by January 1 in Kurzeme and Vidzeme, half the monthly norm.
Due to thawing and heavy rainfall, water levels in rivers will remain high and continue to rise, leading to flood in some places.
