Thawing will continue across Latvia on Saturday, with air temperatures of +1 C to +6 C overnight and during the day. It will rain at times, wet snow is also expected in places.
On the last day of the year, the wind will turn in from the northeast and bring drier and colder air. On Sunday, December 31, temperatures will slide slightly below zero in Vidzeme, while on New Year's night the frost will gradually cover Latvia.
New Year's morning air temperature will be around zero around Liepāja and -7 C to -2 C in the rest of the country.
It will become even colder next week, overnight temperatures for places in Vidzeme and Latgale will approach the -20 C mark, and the daily temperatures will also be from -3 C on the coast to -15 C in the east of the country.
Although it will be snowing at times next week, there will be not much precipitation in general so the ground will likely not turn white.
