After the morning thunderstorms, the sky will clear, and the sun will shine and it will get hotter. Air temperature will reach +25 C to +30 C in the afternoon, cooler only in Kurzeme at +19 C to +24 C.
In the late afternoon and in the evening, rains are expected in many regions, but there will be strong thunderstorms in central and eastern parts of the country, which locally can carry storms, hail and heavy rainfall causing short-term flooding, including in Rīga.
In the western and central part of Latvia, an orange alert for severe thunderstorms has been issued, but the Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Center concede that it will have to be raised to the highest – red alert over the course of the day, which is likely to apply to the central and eastern parts of Latvia.
Caution should be observed if caught amidst a thunderstorm. It is safest to be indoors. If you are driving when it strikes, stop on the side of the road far from trees or any structures that the wind can tip.
