Weekend will be even warmer; cold to return next week

Air temperatures will rise in Latvia over the weekend, but persistent frost will return next week, according to forecasts.

Thursday will be windy, with westerly, southwesterly wind gusts on the coast reaching 20-22 meters per second, the rest of the country 11-17 meters per second, with rain and wet snow expected at times. Temperatures both night and day will be within -1 C to +5 C.

On Friday night, as the sky clears, some frost is expected across Latvia, except for the coast, but the warmest weather is expected on Saturday at + 4 to +9 C. Temperatures will be close to heat records.

Temperatures will drop on Sunday but still be a little above zero. There won't be much rainfall during the weekend.

It will get cooler early next week, with steady frost gradually returning. Temperatures will be around -10 C overnight in Vidzeme and Latgale in the middle of the week. At times it will snow.
