Aluksne wakes to mid-April's winter wonderland

Take note – story published 8 years ago

Latvia's northeastern provincial town of Alūksne reported a 5-centimeter snow cover Wednesday morning, reported residents and local media in tweets featuring some views more characteristic of wintertime than April 15. Elsewhere around the country the weather was crisp and sunny with scattered clouds, though heavy rain was expected overnight to Thursday.

Forecasters predict the complete disappearance of the snow in Alūksne by afternoon as temperatures rise to melt it away at around +7 degrees Celsius. Elsewhere in the land temperatures will hover between +6 and +11. Skies will remain overcast, but scattered sunshine will be breaking through to punctuate only occasional precipitation mostly in the form of rain, however heavy at times, as the cyclone continues to swipe the region.

A similar weather pattern is expected to last through the weekend until the beginning of next week, expect meteorologists.

Temperatures will dip to lows between +1 and +5, while highs during the day will rise to +5 and +10 degrees.
