April was cooler than usual

The average air temperature in Latvia in April of this year was 1.1 degrees below the norm. A cool April has been experienced for the third consecutive year, according to data by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, LETA reported.

Last month's average air temperature in the country was +5.0 C. In 2021 and 2020 it was +5.4 and +5.6 C, respectively, while the monthly norm is +6.1 C. The last warm April was in 2019, when the monthly average temperature reached +7.8 C.

The minimum air temperature in April of this year was -10.5 C on the first day of the month in Zosēni, while the maximum air temperature was +19.0 C on April 20 in Daugavpils and April 21 in Rīga.

The total rainfall in Latvia in April was 39 millimeters or 109% of the monthly norm.

The first three months of the year were warmer than normal in Latvia. In January and February, rainfall significantly exceeded the long-term average, while March was the second driest in the history of observations.
