Changeable weather in store for week

It'll be warm and wet in Latvia this week, with freezing temperatures occasionally interrupting the thaw.

Monday and Tuesday will be cloudy with drizzling rain in parts of the country and wet snow in the east. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures will be at about 0..+4C.

Wednesday and Thursday will see Latvia an anticyclone weather system arrive so the skies will clear, with nighttime temperatures falling to 0..-5C and lower than that in parts of Vidzeme and Latgale. Temperatures in Kurzeme, which is in Latvia's west, will hover above zero however.

During daytime it'll still be sub-zero in the east but consistently above zero degrees Celsius in the central and western regions.

On the weekend the weather will be rainy and a thaw will set in across Latvia with the exception of the eastern reaches of the country.

Long-term forecasts say the last days of January will be warm.
