Cold summer throws people into disbelief

Take note – story published 6 years ago

The first half of this week will be warm and just a little rainy but the weather will get colder with heavy rain after Wednesday, forecasts say.

Until Wednesday air temperatures of +18..+24C are expected with little rain Monday and a bit more rain with thunder on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Starting Thursday a cyclone weather system is expected to hit Latvia with forecasts indefinite right now but showing a strong chance of rain.

According to the Global Forecast System, Thursday to Saturday could see rain twice the monthly norm fall on Latvia. Temperatures are not expected to tip over +15..+20C on the latter half of the week.

There is a positive side to all this bad weather. Latvia's Fire and Rescue Service says fewer people have drowned this year as a direct consequence to the cold weather that discourages swimming.

Meanwhile people have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration with the lack of balmy weather very important to Latvians who don't ever seem to get quite enough of the sun.

"I like summers as summer rain is warmer than that of spring and the fall," tweeted @Cements_ with a tinge of sarcasm.
