Cold week ahead

Take note – story published 7 years ago

Weather forecasters have done a quick U-turn and switched their previous prediction of a warm start to February with quite the opposite.

Latest data show it will actually be quite cold -- which is what is generally expected of early February in Latvia.

Temperatures will stay below freezing for most of the week, with only occasional mini-thaws.

There will be little rainfall and such as there is will be limited mainly to coastal areas. Inland, snow flurries can be expected periodically throughout the week.

Little wind means that fog may also form, which will combine with ice to create very dangerous conditions on the roads -- so drive with extreme care throughout the week.

Air temperatures at night most of the week will be in the range 0 to -5 C, and in the second half of the week will be a chilly -9 C at night in eastern districts.

Temperatures should warm slightly towards the end of the week, being in the range -3 to +3 C, but as ever, the forecasters reserve the right to change their minds completely at any time.
