Cold week, warm weekend ahead in Latvia

The coming nights in Latvia will be frosty, but over the weekend the weather will get considerably warmer, according to forecasts by LSM's weatherman Toms Bricis.

On Monday, temperatures will range from 0 to -5 degrees Celsius. It will get colder Tuesday morning, air temperatures ranging from -4 C to -5 C on the coast to -15 C to -17 C in the east of the country. 

Wednesday and Thursday nights the temperature will fall to  -1 C to -6 C, colder in the northern and eastern part of Vidzeme, where temperatures will fall to -8 C to  -13 C. In the afternoons, in Kurzeme, Zemgale and near Rīga the air will warm to 0 C to +4 C, while frost will remain in the east.

As of Friday, the weather will be warmer and on the weekend temperatures will be mostly within +3 C to  +8 C, at night -1 C to +4 C.

In the coming days, there will be little snow, but on Thursday evening Latvia will be crossed by a large rainfall zone, initially carrying snow and wet snow, which will turn into the rain. Rain is expected on the weekend.

The wind will mostly be slow to moderate, only on Thursday and Friday will wind gusts reach 15-20 meters per second, a bit stronger on the coast.

The layer of snow, which has developed in many parts of Latvia and will be replenished in the coming days, will melt by the end of the week.
