Take note – story published 1 year ago

A residential neighborhood has flooded in Ādaži, resulting in evacuation, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) told LETA on January 3.

This morning around 8:00 rescuers received a call to Nūrnieku Street, where an area of private houses was submerged in water due to rising levels in the Gauja River.

Part of the street and the territories around houses were flooded according to the VUGD.

Rescuers are evacuating people and pets by boat from private homes. The works have been performed in cooperation with the municipality of Ādaži. The municipality has indicated on social networks that the Strautkalnu Road has also been partially submerged and is currently being cleared from ice drifts. The local government is asking residents to take another road.

Latvian State Roads wrote on Twitter that due to the flood, traffic is closed on the Baltezers-Āņi-Lapmeži road. Travel is possible through Garkalne–Ošlauki (V49) and Ādaži–Garkalne (V46).
