Fluctuating weather week ahead

Take note – story published 6 years ago

Latvia is in for a week of contrasting weather patterns with rather cold temperatures at the start of the week followed by rather warm ones toward the end.

Monday morning is overcast and has temperatures hovering around zero in most places though later in the day temperatures could reach +7 C in coastal areas. Tuesday morning will be similar, with a few centimeters of snow in many places.

Midweek temperatures will drop significantly. On Wednesday and Thursday night temperatures in the largest part of the country will fall to -3 to -8 C, while some places in Vidzeme and Latgale will be colder still with temperatures of -12 C. As usual it will be slightly warmer in Kurzeme.

On Wednesday afternoon the sun is due to put in a brief appearance, though the temperature in most places will remain at a level below zero, but on Thursday it will rise between +1 and + 4 C.

Next weekend, the weather will become much warmer, though the temperature rise will be accompanied by cloud and rain. Friday and Saturday will see temperatures staying above freezing throughout the day and night, reaching + 7 C on Saturday and then climbing again on Sunday to a balmy +10 C, at which point it will be safe to remove thermal underwear at last.
