Hot weather continues in Latvia with risk of thunderstorms

Take note – story published 4 years ago

Forecasters say the high heat will continue into the second half of the week, with an increasing likelihood of short-term cloudbursts and thunder.

The temperature will hover between +25 and +30 Celsius, rising to +32 C in certain areas, but reaching only +22 C to +24 C near the coast. Daily thunderclouds will build over all regions, but will affect only a small part of the country. Local winds may bring showers, hail, and lightning. There is also a small risk of a thunderstorm.

At night, the temperature will range from +14 C to +19 C. Certain areas, Rīga included, will experience a so called “tropical” night, with the temperature dropping to only +20 degrees.

Changes in the weather will start occurring on Saturday afternoon in the Kurzeme region, when an easterly wind will bring cooler air. On Sunday, however, a north-easterly wind will start blowing through the whole country, making the temperature rise to a mere +20 C to +25 C in central areas and +17 C to +19 C in coastal ares, including Rīga. The weather on Sunday will be sunny and without rain.
