Latvia may still get a partially White Christmas

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Though most of Latvia woke on Thursday to a slightly gray morning, precipitation will cross Latvia from the southwest through the day, with sleet and snow expected. It may even snow heavily in places, delivering an eleventh-hour white christmas.

Most of the precipitation will be in the second half of the day, forecasters predict.

In central and eastern regions of the country the thickness of the snow cover could reach 5-9 centimeters on Christmas Eve. During snowfall, visibility will occasionally deteriorate to 500-1000 meters and roads will be slippery.

The whitest Christmas is expected in Zemgale, as well as in the northern part of Latgale.

There will be little or no snow in most of Kurzeme, as well as along the Gulf of Riga.

The air temperature will be -1 Celsius to + 3 C.
