March will still be cold in Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Air temperatures in Latvia will often rise above zero this week, but colder weather is expected starting the end of the week, according to forecasts.

For the first time since March 2018, average air temperatures are likely to be below the norm, which has risen from -1.3 C in 1961-1990 to +0.2 C in 1991-2020. In the last ten years, only twice - in 2013 and 2018 - the first month of spring in Latvia was cold, the average air temperature in these years was -5.5 and -2.4 C, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

On the basis of the forecasts of the moment, while the week will still be warmish, toward the weekend, snow will fall. Air temperatures will plunge below zero at night but warm to +5 C during the day.

In the first half of March, further clouds from the sea will bring strong snowfall, possibly a blizzard in the western and central parts of the country. Air temperatures will often slip below -10 C at night, and days will often be sunny.
