Meanwhile the water level in rivers continues to rise and the LVĢMC is warning people not to risk walking on 'what might look like solid ice, saying:
"The thickness of the ice sheet in rivers is very uneven. On the banks of the river, the ice can be in several layers, thinner in the middle. The ice is mostly covered with snow, which hinders the increase in the thickness of the ice cover and hinders the visual assessment of the danger of the ice cover. Due to the thaw, the formation of ice in water bodies will stop, water will appear on the ice, the area of drips will increase, and the snow cover will flatten. Runoff will increase and water levels will rise, flooding and floodplains. It is DANGEROUS to be on the ice!"
