While snow is melting in most of Latvia, parts of the north-eastern Vidzeme region are still seeing snowfall and are covered in a thick blanket of the white stuff, according to the State Geological and Meteorology Center.

The snow in Alūksne is 19 cm deep, with 17 cm in Valka, and 15 in Gulbene. Parts of Latgale are still covered in snow, albeit less of it - about six cm in Rēzekne and eight cm in Daugavpils.

The snow is only about a centimeter thick in Rīga but the snow has melted in the western and central regions of Latvia - Kurzeme and Zemgale.
