Rainiest September this century recorded in Latvia

Take note – story published 6 years ago

From September 1 to September 19 there has been 121 mm of rainfall recorded in Latvia, making it the rainiest September this century against an average of 71 mm of weather that usually falls this month, according to data by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The previous most-rainy September was recorded in 2010 with 95 mm of rainfall. This year's rainfall does not fall short much of 1950 and 1978 when 135 mm to 136 mm of rainfall was recorded over Latvia.

Kalnciems near Jelgava recorded a whopping 160 mm of rainfall this September but Salacgrīva recorded just 74 mm. Rīga recorded 112 mm.

Heavy rainfall has caused floods with expected losses to farmers expected in the dozens of millions of euros.

On the bright side more rain is expected just on Thursday and perhaps Friday, however the rest of the month should be drier with just a little drizzle here and there.
