Slight respite over weekend before new heat wave arrives in Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Temperatures will fall slightly in the coming days, but the heat will return next week, according to forecasts.

There will be more clouds in Latgale and the east of Vidzeme on Saturday, so the heat will decrease more, with the temperature between +23 C to +25 C. In the rest of the country it will still range between +26 C and +30 C.

Local rain and thunderstorms are possible Sunday, with temperatures between +23 C and +28 C.

On Monday, it might be even cooler but the heat will pick up again Tuesday. Current forecasts suggest that it will be hot until the end of August, with temperatures around +30 C.

There is a high likelihood that this August will become the hottest since weather observations have been carried out in Latvia. Until now, the hottest August was experienced in 1939, when the average monthly temperature in the country totaled +20.2 C. This year, between August 1 and 18, the average temperature was +19.7 C, but hot weather is still to come.
