Some hope for white yuletide in Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year ago

This week there will be a thaw in Latvia, but around Christmas it will get cooler again, according to forecasts.

On the night to Tuesday, snowfall and sleet will cross Latvia, roads and sidewalks will be very slippery. Ice will also form on tree branches and power lines, so there is potential for interference in the electricity supply.

On Monday evening in Latvia temperatures will still be below zero, even down to -10 C, but it will get warmer on Tuesday, resulting in thaw. Until Friday, temperatures during days and nights will be within +1 C to +7 C, with rain, wet snow, and mist.

The snow cover will melt rapidly and will disappear completely in Kurzeme and the central part of the country. Rivers can flood.

On December 24, Christmas Eve, in most of Latvia, there will be a small frost and snowfall. The temperature will fluctuate around zero during the holidays.
