Spring weather swings on in

After a bout of rain in the middle of the work week, the skies over most of Latvia will clear and let the sunshine in for the weekend, expect meteorologists. However forecasters are also calling for a mix of thunderstorms and rain, even an early morning frost, to punctuate the otherwise summery moments in store.

In eastern Vidzeme and Latgale provinces the cloud cover is expected to stay rather thick for Friday, bringing occasional continuing rain to the inland regions. Elsewhere though, mostly sunny conditions will keep the chance of any precipitation close to nil. High temperatures should reach between +12 and +17 degrees Celsius.

Skies will continue to clear overnight to Saturday morning, with calls for patchy fog mostly in western Kurzeme province and a possibility of frost forming on the grass. Lows will dip to between freezing and +5 degrees, slightly warmer on the sea- and gulf coasts.

Saturday promises to be quite sunny, pushing temperatures up to between +14 and +18 degrees, though spots on the coast will stay cooler between +10 and +13 degrees.

But overnight to Sunday some cloud cover is expected to return to the region, bringing the possibility of very light rains to Kurzeme. Lows will drop to between +5 and +10 degrees, colder still in Vidzeme and Latgale (between +2 and +4), reducing the chance of more frost.

During the day Sunday the cloud cover will increase along with the chance of more rain and scattered thundershowers in central regions of the land, especially by the late afternoon and evening. High temperatures will warm up to between +15 and +20 degrees, about five or six degrees cooler in Kurzeme.

Though a brief cooling has been forecast for Monday, bringing another chance of overnight frosts, by Tuesday and Wednesday predictions call for another brief warming trend, with high temperatures reaching or slightly exceeding +20 degrees.

Then again, however, forecasts call for continued fluctuations in the weather pattern as rain and gusty winds should bring another cooler air mass into the region by Thursday.
