Latvia got a bit of a battering on the evening of August 17 with strong winds causing some damage with winds reaching an average 25 meters per second in Ventspils and coastal areas bearing the brunt of the blast.
Even in central Rīga temperatures of 23 meters per second were recorded, and occasional blasts in Liepāja (famously known as Latvia's windy city) were reported to have touched 34 meters per second.

Fire and rescue crews attended more than 300 incidents, the great majority of them in and around the capital. Many trees were felled by the storm. Technicians were also hard-pressed to maintain electricity supplies in some areas.
